Recovery Journey

hi triBE!  it’s november which marks six months since i received life saving care at sanoviv medical institute in mexico.  it’s now time for me to return to sanoviv for what i refer to as a whole body diagnostic. this will include a week of cancer detox therapies as well as my second t-cell therapy and further holistic modalities.

to recap, i am doing really well!  according to a recent full body scan, the combination of treatments at play are working.  some tumors have decreased to no longer being measurable, while the largest cluster located in my abdomen has some “new metabolic activity”.    at best , this activity could mean nothing really but a worst case scenario could mean lymphoma is transforming into a b-cell type of cancer which can be very aggressive.    because i am doing so well, i am afforded the luxury of “watching” and re-scanning in two months , vs an immediate biopsy and further invasive procedures.

let me break it down for you!   i have two oncologists.   first is  doc ortega. the man who brought me back to life!! he is located in mexico. i whole heartedly trust and love this man.  he is incredibly caring and in it to win it!!  he created the master treatment plan for me, which involves returning to him every six months for t-cell therapy.  since he is not covered by insurance, i sought another oncologist in the states to keep me safe and honor the treatment schedule created by dr ortega.  his name is doc berkowitz.  he is also a lovely human!  he has a great sense of humor , knows his stuff and tells it like it is.  i am absolutely thrilled with my team, and that is one of many key factors in keeping my mind right!  feeling heard and respected in the process is a game changer.  i highly recommend finding doctors you align with in this way.  my rules for myself… do not settle for less.  also, always trust my instincts and be bold enough to act on them.  having faith in my instincts is defined by acting on them.

so, the treatment breakdown is as follows….

*while at sanoviv, i received a t-cell therapy treatment that lasts six months.

*i was sent home with six months worth a medicine called TMC to take twice a week.  if i understand correctly this medicine talks to the t-cells and keeps them active.

*i am directed to return every six months for additional t-cell therapy until this hitchhiker is gone.

*i also have been directed to receive  (1)  IV treatment of rituxan every three weeks. this is where doc berkowitz comes in.  my insurance covers these treatments, scans, bloodwork and other miscellaneous things i may need.

rituxan is not chemotherapy, it is a targeted treatment that works by binding to a protein called CD20 that is present on the surface of b-lymphocytes, which are a type of white blood cell. when rituxan binds to this protein, it causes b-cells to self-destruct or disintegrate.  it’s  most commonly used for rheumatoid arthritis.

*i take a potent curcumin supplement, some specific mushroom supplements and a few other things like chlorella and magnesium.

i do have daily discomfort that is managed well by CBD and advil, thankfully.

doc ortega also highly recommends a “mediterranean diet” and to continue with my obsession of juicing.  light workouts, lot’s of (gentle) movement ,sunshine and meditation. etc.

side note about sanoviv-  they do not advertise, so if you know someone suffering from cancer, lymes disease , long covid, (and many more health concers) or needing a week of detox and love, please share this place with them  www.sanoviv.com . if you do, please mention my name.

so many have recently asked about fundraising and where they can help.  if you would like to help me get back to my next treatment at sanoviv,  first of all, i sincerely THANK YOU!  i truly carry all who cheer me on in my heart.  there are no words to describe the depth of gratitude one feels when receiving help with a life threatening situation.  the quote for the next visit to sanoviv is $12,400.  not as daunting as the first round, thankfully!

WHERE TO SEND  it’s preferred to use zelle because there is no charge for the service.  not everyone has zelle, so venmo or paypal are next preferred as they take less than the go-fund-me platform does.  for those who prefer go-fund-me, we have kept the link active from the original fundraiser.  all listed below…

bank to bank transfer via zelle -  425.512.1866

venmo-  @tana-roller

paypal-  @tanaroller

or a wire transfer directly to sanoviv medical institute is always a great option too.
